Environmental Lead Investigation Services

Last month, we highlighted the importance of universal blood lead toxicity testing for children.  For EPSDT Highmark Wholecare members with a confirmed Blood Lead Level of 3.5 µg/dL or higher, providers can refer them to an Environmental Lead Investigation (ELI) Provider. These important ELI services, assist in identifying lead in the home, are covered for eligible members.

Highmark Wholecare has 3 Environmental Lead Investigation Providers:

1. Allegheny County Residents Allegheny County Health Department Please fax a prescription including a diagnosis, lead level, and parent/guardian contact information to 412-350-2792.

Pinnacle Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program Please use the Pinnacle Referral Form and fax the completed form to 717-782-2709. 
3. All others Accredited Environmental Technologies (AET) Please use the Environmental Lead Investigation Referral Form.

 

If Lead is Found in the Home

The State of Pennsylvania requires that lead-based paint fixes must be made by a licensed lead abatement (removal) contractor. If home repairs for lead are needed, they must be done by a licensed EPA Renovation Repair and Painting contractor.
