Protecting Your Patients This Winter Season

As we transition from summer to a busier schedule with work and school, it's important to prioritize health and well-being. Now is a good time to encourage your patients to get vaccinated against common winter illnesses, such as the flu.

The CDC recommends the following vaccines:

  • COVID-19 for everyone aged six months and older. Updated vaccines will be available from Moderna, Novavax, and Pfizer.
  • Flu vaccine for all individuals six months or older. September and October are the best times to get vaccinated; however, certain people should be encouraged to obtain one in July or August every year. This includes:
    • Pregnant women who are in their third trimester
    • Children who require two doses, with the second dose four weeks after the initial dose
    • Children who have a well child visit and might not get the opportunity to obtain one later.
  • RSV for individuals aged 75 years and older or 60-74 who are at increased risk of severe RSV due to certain chronic medical conditions such as heart or lung disease. It is important to note that the RSV vaccine is not administered annually.

Please encourage your Highmark Wholecare patients to get their vaccines or schedule an appointment at a participating Highmark Wholecare pharmacy for their shots.
