Environmental Lead Investigation Services
Last month, we highlighted the importance of universal blood lead toxicity testing for children. If this testing identifies that a child has an Elevated Blood Lead Level (EBLL), Environmental Lead Investigation (ELI) Services* are covered for eligible members.
Providers can refer pediatric Highmark Wholecare members with a Blood Lead Level of 3.5 µg/dL or higher by blood draw to an ELI Provider. This is a very important step in removing lead from the home that is elevating the child’s blood lead levels.

The State of Pennsylvania requires that lead based paint fixes must be made by a licensed lead abatement (removal) contractor. If home repairs for lead are needed, they must be done by a licensed EPA Renovation Repair and Painting contractor.
